happy lonely
it's not unusual to see mad people around us.mad - mentally unstablei drove by this 24hrs coffee shop near my place quite a lot on the way home especially, at times in the day too. besides the familiar stationery structure, the most distinctive movable feature would have to be this lady in a batik-print dress pyjamas.she walks up and down that stretch of road everyday, eyes-a-blank, lips moving frantically, in a mumbbling-pattern. she has good posture while she walks, i must say.it hurts a little to see her. strange to feel that way. maybe because i do not know her. perhaps for i know, that is the best way to be.at times we allow ourselves to stare blankly in the air. when do we manage to let ourselves go even further that our souls sprint into the air, leaving the empty shell, walking up and down a street as an everyday fashion-must-have?it's not sad afterall.

share the joy of sharing
a few weeks ago i'd message chloe and hanxiang to ask if they are willing to come by some time to give a talk to the present art students about the art courses they are currently taking in LaSalle. To my surprise, they agree to do it right on. That super-positive response spur me to contact more of these big-kiddies who are out there on their own exploring the art / design fields. I was so happy that all of them are eager to come by to share their experiences.
after a few times of change of dates and etc, we finally have them over on the 20th Jan 2007, a saturday in school.
throughout the whole talk, I was busy talking to some 4N students about their coursework so i've only managed to catch parts of the talks here and there, but I love what I heard.
something like this:
' we have learnt to appreciate every little details around us. '
' art friend is really our friend! '
' a lot of hard work, but it's worth. '
they have also brought along big files of their works to share with the students and fed them with a lot of personalised first-hand information they may not get even if they visited the open house.
the intended 1 hour session was extended to 2 hours.
after packing up, i wanted to give them a lunch treat. they only wanted to go to the coffee shop beside the school, simply because they have missed the food there. over lunch, they have also express interest to come by to help out with the art camps.
i suppose these little things, responses and seeing your students grow, are the perks of teaching. we used to teach them, now we are able to work with them. totally blessed.
Ex and present, all are YUSOFFIANS! :)

for the service of mankind and more
now that i have my fridays free of art coursework remedials, i'm able to spend more time with my cadets and be with them for training.
last weekend we had our annual cca recruitment day. after more than half a saturday has gone, Wid asked me how many cadets i have recruited from the new sec ones. i told her we have more casualties to attend to than cadets recruited (exaggerated!). but it's true that while every cca is busy pulling and attracting people to join their gang, our cadets also have the duties to look after the well-being of everyone present that day. of course we hope for zero casualities at any events, but in such events, the real incident is definitely better than re-enactment. no, no, we are not evil, we always cross out fingers that our casualities will not be in drastic pain, and they will leave with a smile after receiving our service. :)
so, yes, for the service of mankind, and more.
march on, my cute little st.john!

where is lunch?
school hours are getting longer, some of us felt.since day one of school, my 24 hours have been divided into12-hours-day in school1-hour-day travelling1-hour-day dinner5.5-hours-day of sleep4.5-hours-day of misc chores and stonningwithin the 12-hours-day in school, i can hardly find lunch hour.school ends at 2.30 pm on average. if we have class from 10am onwards, lunch has to be consumed before 10am, which usually is common.by the time the last lesson ends at 2.30pm, you clean up the mess and bring your tired body back to the staff room, it's about 3pm. you stone for 5 mins here and there, see students here and there, visit the toilet after hours of not-going, and finally settled at your desk once again to do some real work, it's almost 4 pm plus. at about 7pm plus, you will hear the aircon vent go quiet, and auntie's keys cling-clink sound coming near as she locks the door, hinting you that she wants to go home soon. and you realised that the pile of work you have hasn't gone down an inch at all, but your sugar level has dropped tremendously. your body ached all over and you just felt like crying inside.stepping out of the staff room, the sky is already dark. sometimes when you get to see a little light before sun set, it's just simply happiness.and you thought,'another 11.5 hours later, i'm back here again.'
